Yet their joy was to be short lived, as they were soon to be confronted by a large army of Thranduil's Wood Elves and Bard’s refugees of Laketown. So it was that the Champions of Erebor armed and armoured themselves with the finest wargear of their people and vowed to protect their ancestral home at all costs.
